Bound Bench and Planter
Bound is a modular piece of street furniture
for New York City. The key design feature is
flexibility. It can be used as a bench, a planter,
or both, simply by flipping the module.
One module could be placed in front of a
small coffee shop or a spare space on a
wide sidewalk, while multiple modules can
be combined to create large sitting or planting
areas in a park plaza. The form of the module
alludes to interconnectedness and rhythm,
ideas that give public space vitality. Functionally,
the form prevents the metal from contacting
standing water.
