The design of this home relies on three ideas: a simple structure informed by resilient local vernacular, strong connections to the site’s natural features and an emphasis on the short walk to the beach. The main entry stair reaches out into the landscape, and lets the land come into the house. Focal spaces on the third floor, such as the kitchen and master bedroom, protrude from the main volume of the house and feel most connected with the outdoors. Lattices shade exposed areas and reference local building traditions.
