Custom feature wall by OMA and Space Agency


Mike is honored to work with Cinnabar on custom elements for the OMA pavilion at the Wilshire Boulevard Temple. Pictured is the donor wall, which honors the donors that contributed to the building. Designed by Space Agency, the wall is a constellation of milled aluminum hexagons, with laser cut donor's names, and illuminated by a LED array.

Mike has been working with Taidgh O’Neill, a Los Angeles based furniture designer, on the design of multiple custom cabinetry projects. They have worked in several notable residences including homes designed by Rudolph Schindler, the English architect John Pawson and the pictured project by Martin Fenlon.

Mike is returning to his home state of North Carolina to work for Kersting Architecture, where he started his career after college. The firm specializes in high-end custom residential design blending local vernacular and modernism. Mike will be managing several projects and working with the office to strengthen interior and exterior detailing.

UC Santa Barbara opens the Ocean Science Education Building


The  Ocean Science Education Building opened  to the public today. The LEED Gold certified building houses a marine science education center and offices for marine scientists studying the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. Mike worked on the building as a designer at EHDD Architecture, and was instrumental in its initial design.

Olson Kundig Penthouse is complete


Installation of custom fabricated components at the Olson Kundig designed Upper East Side residence is complete. Mike was responsible for the technical development of a three-story staircase and bookcase, a structural mezzanine, railings, and furniture in steel, glass and leather. Elliptical masterpiece complete

 

Fabrication and installation of a floating elliptical sawtooth staircase in the Hamptons is complete. Mike was the technical designer and project manager on the project and was responsible for the technical development of the project. Completed at Ferra Designs of Brooklyn, NY.

Installation of Olson Kundig penthouse elements commences


Installation of metal scope for an Olson Kundig designed penthouse in Manhattan has begun. On a cold January morning, large components were craned onto the top of the 17-story building. Mike is technically developing a three-story staircase, bookcase and mezzanine using steel, glass and leather. Fabrication by Ferra Designs.

26th street loft doors complete


Fabrication and installation of a large blackened steel and antique glass double entry door in Chelsea is complete. The true divided light doors utilized Bendheim glass and FSC hardware. Mike was responsible for all metal and glass parts and assisted in the installation of the completed product. Completed at Ferra Designs of Brooklyn, NY.

studioFORGE proposes new chair for Battery Park


Sushir Kadidal and Mike Jozewicz of studioFORGE submitted the Confluence chair to the Battery Park Conservancy's invitation to designers to propose ideas for new park seating. The chair's design, with fluid cast-aluminum legs and relaxed posture, is complimented by a public recycling initiative aimed at engaging people in public space.

Fabrication is underway for prototypes of FAR FOUND's Viva line in Bogota, Colombia. Mike and Alvaro Uribe visited factories to review progress. FAR FOUND produces contemporary residential furniture that embraces the attitude of their countries of origin. The Viva line embraces the Colombian themes of casualness, rhythm, and color.

Michelin-rated Hakkasan opens in mid-town Manhattan


Hakkasan, the Michelin-rated modern Cantonese restaurant, opens its newest location in mid-town Manhattan. Mike developed and installed numerous decorative metal components on the interior and exterior of the restaurant with the Ferra Designs team. The design was conceived by the renowned French interiors firm of Gilles et Boissier.

Mike presents his Master of Industrial Design Thesis


Mike will present his Master's thesis project at Pratt Institute's main library at 3:30 PM. The title of his thesis is Quilted: Connecting Immigrants, Cultures and Public Space in New York City. After two semesters of work, Mike delivered nine design prototypes relating to this topic, a formal presentation of his work, and a thesis paper.

studioFORGE fabricate recycled cardboard rocking chairs for Third + Bond


Mike and Sushir Kadidal of studioFORGE have been commissioned to develop and fabricate recycled cardboard rocking chairs for the apartment showcase at Third + Bond. The design was conceived by Anthony Caradonna, a professor at Pratt's School of Architecture, and was assembled from recycled cardboard found on Pratt's campus.

studioFORGE moves to LIC studio


studioFORGE moved into new space in Reis Studios in Long Island City. After setting up the space, work will begin on a line of furniture to be made in Bogota, Colombia. The members of FORGE are Stevenson Aung of Nalata Nalata, Jason Hu, Mike Jozewicz, Sushir Kadidal and Alvaro Uribe.

Mike's work displayed in the Hammerstein


Mike's work will be displayed in the Hammerstein of the Manhattan Center as part of Pratt Show 2011, an annual juried exhibition of exceptional design work by Pratt’s graduating students. The exhibit will be open from May 10 through May 13. Mike's Bound Benches, Layer Light, Amalg Light and Depla Light will be on display.

FAR FOUND has submitted Onya, a dynamic light that illuminates when expanded, to the Asahikawa Furniture Industry Cooperative in Japan. The Cooperative organizes the International Furniture Design Fair in Asahikawa, and invites designers from around the world to submit concepts that embrace the future of wood manufacturing.

Nabolis Chair is featured at ICFF


The Nabolis Chair will be featured at the Wilsonart booth in the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Javits Center in Manhattan. The chair was a finalist in the Wilsonart Challenges Design Competition, which challenged students to think about new ways of using Wilson Art laminate products.

The Guyana Project exhibits its work at Model Citizens


Mike and the Guyana Project exhibit their work at Model Citizens. The exhibit will feature Mike's Twisting Kufa light. The Guyana Project is a group of designers that traveled to Guyana to develop products and furniture using sustainably-harvested forest products. Twisting Kufa and the Guyana Project were featured in the Inhabit Blog.

Mike's work shown at Third + Bond Apartment Showcase


The Layer light and Rockers chairs will appear in a model apartment showcase at the Third + Bond development in Brooklyn. Mike travels to Guyana to develop product prototypes


At the Liana Cane Factory, Mike worked with craftspersons to produce a light prototype using sustainably-harvested materials. Mike harvested materials with Amerindian craftsmen, explored the Iwokrama International Rainforest Centre and met with the president Bharret Jagdeo. Rebecca Welz and Patti Johnson guided the project.

Layer Light places in the Kovacs Lighting Competition


The Layer Light has won third place in the second annual George Kovacs Lighting Competition. The light was on display in the gallery at the New York Design Center in Manhattan. The competition was judged by Alecia Wesner, the president of the Kovacs-Wesner Design Group, Giovanni Pellone and Tucker Viemeister.
